The Song of the Lark is the story of Thea Kronborg, the musically gifted daughter of a Methodist minister. Growing up in the dusty desert town of Moonstone, Colorado she feels out of place, and limited by her conventional surroundings. The novel traces Thea’s growth as an artist from her childhood years to her hard-won success as the reigning soprano at the Metropolitan Opera. Considered by critics to be highly autobiographical, The Song of the Lark is about the single-minded pursuit of beauty and the costs of that pursuit.
