George Lewis: “Everything I Learned in Life, I Learned at the Shelter Island Country Club”

For PGA Hall of Famer and Master Pro George Lewis, it all started at the Shelter Island Country Club. His love of golf began on the hilly course where he caddied, shagged balls during golf lessons and learned every shot imaginable from his pro, long-time course manager Bill Congdon. As a boy, he hit golf balls from his family's front lawn on West Neck Road to the second fairway. In 1958,Mr. Lewis became a golf professional, playing in major PGA events and winning the 1967 Grand Bahama Open. On the anniversary of SICC's 120th anniversary, Mr. Lewis will speak via Zoom about his celebrated career -- with Mary Fran Gleason, chair of the club's 120th Anniversary Committee.
