The Paragon Hotel by Lyndsay Faye

Alice James, a wounded gun moll comes to Oregon to hide out. After befriending a Pullman porter, Max, she ends up in an all-black hotel in a Jim Crow city. At first she is not welcome, but as she becomes part of the family she faces the terror wrought by the Klu Klux Klan and comes to terms with her own past.
