The Sins of the Fathers by Lawrence Block
The Sins of the Fathers introduced Lawrence Block’s popular character, the alcoholic private investigator Matt Scudder.  Scudder is hired by a distraught father to reinvestigate a cold case, the stabbing murder of his estranged daughter.  Kirkus Reviews called Sins of the Father “haunting and mournful as the baying of a hound at the moon.”  A must for Block/Scudder fans.
